MR16 vs GU10s
There are primarily two different kinds of spotlights, and they are known as GU10 and MR16. Checking the prongs on the base is the quickest and easiest way to differentiate between the two. When removing light bulbs from your ceiling, it is important to remember to turn off the electricity and cover your hands. If the bulb is not an LED, it may be extremely hot.
Understanding the distinctions between GU10 and MR16
The base of an MR16 light has two thin pins, but the base of a GU10 light has two lugs at the end of each pin.
You now have two alternatives available to you now that you have properly identified your lamp. If it is a GU10, you may easily switch it out for an LED light that has the same dimensions. However, if this is an MR16, then we strongly recommend that you switch to GU10, and you should do so as soon as possible.
You will have more alternatives to choose from in terms of your lighting, including gradual dimming of the brightness. Dimming systems for LED MR16 bulbs can be quite unstable, whereas the lighting quality provided by GU10 bulbs is exceptional.
It will result in cost savings for you. MR16s are often more expensive, and due to the fact that they are unreliable, it is more probable that they will need to be replaced.
It can be challenging to replace traditional MR16 bulbs with LED MR16 bulbs since you will also need to replace the transformer that is used for each bulb with a model that is compatible with LEDs.
How can I make the transition to GU10?
We would always advise hiring a professional electrician; but, if you are comfortable performing simple electrical work on your own, you might decide to tackle this project on your own. In order to install your new GU10 bulbs, you will require a GU10 lampholder, which is the fitting that fits into the recessed area of your ceiling.
